John Explains What's New in the Current Titles

With years of experience across schools, community colleges, and universities, my primary goal has always been to offer the best-in-class material to my colleagues and students. In a rapidly changing world, it’s crucial that textbooks evolve as well. I believe that timely updates to book editions are essential to ensure relevance and accuracy, reflecting new knowledge.

Welcome to the John Macionis website, which encourages us to see the path to change. Perhaps you are a college or university teacher, perhaps you are a student, but almost certainly you are a person concerned about the state of our world.
The goal of all our publishing has always been quality without compromise. To achieve this objective, I am personally involved in all aspects of developing our texts. Beyond doing all the writing, I work on design and production, which includes the selection of all images.

Relevance to Modern Military Practice

Unlike traditional marches, Jager takes the listener on a journey from colonial fife-and-drum sounds to modern, full-force symphonic textures, mirroring the long history of the Marine Corps.

To truly embody the "Esprit de Corps" of Jäger, a player must move beyond individual stats. You are the shield of the team. A successful Jäger round isn't just measured in kills, but in the number of grenades that never exploded and the amount of time the attackers spent fruitlessly trying to clear your utility.

Esprit de Corps, a sense of shared identity and camaraderie, was essential to the Jäger units. These elite soldiers were handpicked for their exceptional marksmanship, agility, and adaptability. They were trained to operate independently, often behind enemy lines, which fostered a strong sense of self-reliance and trust among team members. This close-knit bond was reinforced through shared experiences, hardships, and victories, creating a powerful esprit de corps that set them apart from other units.

: The score features the unique marking "Tempo di Bourgeois," a nod to the energetic and spirited conducting style of Col. John Bourgeois. Review: Why It Stands Out Esprit de Corps by Robert Jager - Wind Band Literature

Also suitable for classroom use as general education (this nutrition puts young people on the path to a longer and heathier life) or for any course discussing obesity, nutrition, health, aging, and prevention of illness. Some Tunes: A Gift to You

One of my favorite pastimes is music, playing as well as listening. Some years back, I spent time in a local recording studio performing oldies tunes that have stayed with me over the years. The link below will take you to the music page of this site. There, you will find one of the CDs from that time, featuring nineteen of my favorite “covers.” Grab your headphones! I hope you enjoy listening to these songs.

Video Lecture on Economic Inequality

Here is a forty minute video lecture that examines income inequality beginning with my own Kenyon campus and then investigates broader patterns of inequality in diverse work settings, including education, medicine, and the world of finance. The presentation also contrasts public perceptions to the reality of wealth inequality.
