The film is loosely based on the real-life story of the dreaded don of Gujarat, Haji Mastan. The story revolves around Raees Ali (played by Shah Rukh Khan), a bootlegger who becomes a powerful and influential don in the streets of Gujarat. He starts his own business of smuggling and bootlegging, which eventually leads to a clash with the police and other underworld gangs.
