This particular version (4.2.8) became the holy grail for modders for several reasons. It predates many of the anti-cheat patches introduced in later official updates (4.3.x and beyond). It is lightweight, runs smoothly on older Android devices, and its code structure is notoriously easy to manipulate. Modders were able to inject scripts that modify damage values globally.
